EPW - Unsigned Swiss, gold, diamond, ruby and enamel scarab form watch, 26mm width at widest point x 59mm to top of bow, 18K gold (tested) scarab form case with exquisite engraving detail, red guilloche enameled, black enameled, and green enameled body set with 17 mine cut diamonds, 2 rubies for eyes, ornately detailed underside engraving, decorative bow designed to appear as front legs, depressing button at tail spreads the wings to reveal concealed white enamel dial, SW-pin-set, cylinder escapement, 10J, wolf-s tooth winding, gilt oval-shaped mvt, no visible s#. Gross weight of assembled watch 22.5 dwt (35.0 g). A visually spectacular piece, this is the first example of this iconic watch style which we have handled.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticking weakly after some prodding to start but stopping occasionally, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some mild toning to plates, some oxide spots to winding wheels, missing one screw to base of click; dial flawless in visible portion; excellent hands; case shows hardly any wear, some fine scratches to visible internal surfaces, no exterior dents or dings, superb crisp engraving detail, enameling is substantially intact though with small spot of loss to upper-right corner of right wing, thin strip of loss to central portion of right side of left wing, and some loss to upper portion of left wing, diamonds and rubies are present; bow pivots semi-freely, crown shows hardly any wear; clean plastic crystal.
